Cellulite

So you’ve sweated it out in the gym all winter, pumped out countless thigh-burning squats and climbed the stair-master to heaven, all in preparation for yet another bikini season. You’re feeling great, those wobbly bits have perked up and you’ve lost a few kilos to boot. Well done, you’ve more than earned that new swimming costume. However, there’s still one thing whittling away at your beach-babe confidence. Despite your vege-laden diet and regular exercise, dimply pot holes continue to plague your thighs.

Cellulite is caused by congested lymph and vascular vessels which inhibit the body’s natural waste removal system – that is our ability to draw energy from stored fatty tissue and flush out toxins or free radicals. These waste products build up and form thickened fat cells or adipocytes which basically destroy the network of collagen and elastin fibres that make up our connective tissue. It’s these hardened pockets of fat that cause the “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance known as cellulite.

The dreaded “C” word affects an estimated 90 per cent of women world-wide. Unfortunately for us, most potions and lotions fail to deliver on their bump-free promise. While diet and exercise can have an impact on our weight, they do not directly impact on our cellulite appearance. Cellulite was unbeatable until now.

Enter Endermologie® - a unique and non-invasive treatment that gently lifts and rolls the skin to shape the body, reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve overall skin fitness. The technology itself has been scientifically developed and clinically proven to reduce cellulite.

What is Cellulite?

Essentially a feminine phenomenon, cellulite is the dimpled, orange peel appearance of the skin caused by the combination of fat stored directly beneath the skin, and retraction of the connective tissues(1) that attach the skin to the muscle layer.

The fat cells(2) in the sub-cutaneous layer increase in size and stick together in pockets between the connective tissue. As these pockets swell they press upwards on the skin, and squeeze shut the blood and lymphatic vessels that feed the skin. Water and toxins are trapped and the connective tissues are strained and starved of oxygen and nutrients. The result is cellulite.

Cellulite is a condition that affects women of all ages, sizes and shapes. 90% of women over the age of 20 have cellulite. Frustratingly, this condition does not respond well to diet or exercise alone. Without treatment cellulite tends to worsen over time. The process is self sustaining as a result of a reduction in blood circulation leading to stagnation of metabolic wastes, nutritional impoverishment and congestion of the connective tissues which loose elasticity and become fibrous.
